I am a life long resident of Davidson County. I was raised in the Linwood Community and made High Rock Lake in the Southmont Community my residence for the past 32 years.
I am the daughter of Hoyle and Helen Young, long time educators in Davidson County. My father was Principal of Central Davidson High School where I graduated. I am an active member of Macedonia United Methodist Church in Southmont. I have one son Chris who is a retired Army Ranger Veteran who completed two tours in Iraq, and was also involved in campaigns in Bosnia, Panama, and Egypt. He was stationed in the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg. He is married to a local Southmont resident Laurie Parks, who is a nurse. I have one granddaughter.
As the owner of the highly successful Biscuit King restaurants for the past 20 years, I employ over 50 dedicated staff members. My peers and colleagues have frequently recognized my outstanding contributions to the business industry.
I received the Lexington Chamber of Commerce award for “Outstanding Business Person of he Year” and have been included in the Cambridge “Who’s Who for Executives and Professionals.”
Most recently I was notified that I was selected to receive the Cambridge “Who’s Who Top Honor – As Executive Professional of the Year 2007-2008 representing food and beverage operations. Honorees are selected from 99 industrial and professional business fields based on respect, distinction, and uprightness of charter and personal integrity. This year, only four people received this honor.
In addition to my business pursuits, I have volunteered untold hours for the city of Lexington, and my neighborhood. I supported the Workforce Development Board for eight years serving as Executive Board member and Chair. During my tenure, I received an award for the Outstanding Workforce Development Board member.
I served as the secretary and Executive Board member for Crime Stoppers of Lexington. There too, the Board recognized me for my superior dedication and I received an award for being Outstanding Crime Stopper Executive Board Member.
I was elected as the first Executive Board President of the Yachtsman’s Point Home Owners Association by over 80% of the vote.
I was a guest columnist for the Dispatch for 7 years and also wrote feature stories for the paper.
My recent leadership endeavor with the Southmont Committee to explore incorporation ignited my interest to direct my energies, strategies and dedication for the betterment of Davidson County. As a person with a history of making a difference, I want to be at the table to make Davidson County a great place to live and work, and make our county a place for us to be proud of.
I will be “Your Voice for the Future” and bring “A New Day for Davidson County”.
